| Mein Vater Herbert Schrödter (1910–1987) hat als Freiwilliger am Zweiten Weltkrieg teilgenommen. Wie es dazu kam, was er dabei erlebt hat und welche Einsichten er dabei gewann, davon erzählt sein hier veröffentlichtes Tagebuch.

Sinn und Zweck der Veröffentlichung
Das Tagebuch gewährt Einblicke in die Gedankenwelt und Lebensumstände eines – wie ich glaube – normalen bürgerlichen Akademikers der damaligen Zeit. Es zeigt beispielhaft, wie weit oder wie wenig weit in diesen Kreisen damals das politische Bewusstsein entwickelt war. Es ist daher eine hervorragende Quelle für gesellschaftswissenschaftliche, vor allem sozialpsychologische, politologische und historische Untersuchungen.

Sense and Purpose of the Publication
The diary provides insights into the mentalities and living conditions of an – as I believe – normal bourgeois academic of the time. It shows by example how good or how fair the political consciousness was developed in those circles. Therefore it is an excellent source for sociological, especially socio-psychological, political and historical studies.

Entstehung des Tagebuchs
Mein Vater schrieb das Tagebuch während des Krieges und während der Gefangenschaft mit der Hand (Beispiel). Nach der Heimkehr schrieb er es mehrmals mit der Schreibmaschine in stets verbesserter Form ab (Beispiel). Die von mir verwendete, in grünes Leinen gebundene Version wurde nicht vor 1983 geschrieben; davon zeugt die Erwähnung des Abschusses von Korean-Air-Lines-Flug 007. Eine weitere Version wurde dem Stadtarchiv Münster übereignet. Ich habe es in digitale Form gebracht und ergänze es durch Erläuterungen und Belege. Neben der vorliegenden Vorveröffentlichung im Internet wird es auch ein – evtl. zweisprachiges – Buch geben. Eine Übersetzung ins Englische ist in Arbeit.

Genesis of the Diary
My father wrote the diary during the war and the captivity by hand (example). Having returned home, he typewrote it several times in always enhanced versions (example). The version I used, bound in green linen, was not written before 1983; this is evidenced by the mention of the Korean Air Lines Flight 007 shootdown. Another version was handed to the Münster City Archives. I digitised it and add explanations and proofs. Aside of this pre-publication on the Internet there will be a book – possibly bi-lingual. A translation into English is in work.

Zum Bearbeitungsstand
Die nachstehenden Teile sind textlich vollständig, jedoch werden sich die Anmerkungen, Fußnoten, Links und Belege mit fortschreitender Forschung noch ändern, Abbildungen werden hinzukommen. Die Anhänge werden laufend überarbeitet und erweitert. Die Übersetzung ins Englische erfolgt in der Version Tagebuch Tag für Tag, die in den Facebook-Blogs 80 Years Ago und 75 Years Ago veröffentlicht wird.
Eine Veröffentlichung als Buch (in Englisch, Deutsch oder bilingual) ist für 2029/30 geplant.

Status of the Project
The following parts are textually complete, but the notes, footnotes, links and evidence may still change with the progress of research, images will be added. The appendices are constantly being revised and expanded. Translation is under way in the version Dad's Diary Day By Day published as Facebook blogs 80 Years Ago and 75 Years Ago.
An edition as a book (in English, German or bilingual) is planned for 2025/26.
