4 Aug 41.[2] Rumor has it that we’ll be deployed. In the area of Uman, several Soviet divisions have been encircled, whose destruction we should be called upon. In fact, we turn north and reach a village[3] in the evening. Hardly in the quarter, I get the orders for the next day: “... Fahrzeugstaffel I ... Fahrzeugstaffel II ...”. This is the combat ready grouping of the train. Combat train, ammo train, kitchen train.[4] Now I know. I give the necessary orders for my platoon and am about to lie down to catch some sleep.
