Second Easter Day: Several brigades go out 2 hours earlier than usual to load wagons.
This camp deals only with wood. In the huge forests around, the wood is cut by our forest commandos, brought by trucks to the gate saw. Next to our camp is a saw gate and a carpentry workshop. The electricity for the machines is supplied by a generator driven by a petrol engine. Both are located in a small wooden shack the size of an allotment garden shed. The Russians call it the "electrostantsya", the power station! The petrol is stored in an earth bunker. The site is entered through a large gate from the road. There are also the 2 administrative buildings, a larger and a smaller massive house, as well as a barrack as a magazine where the workers of the place can shop. The biggest part of the place is taken up by the piles of wood. It is logs of all sizes, from 10-metre trunks to 2-metre stems. Most of it is loaded onto goods trains, some of it is sawn into boards and planks in the gate and processed in the carpentry workshop. The whole complex is surrounded by a wire fence. It has a railway siding to the Moscow-Berlin main line. We call this whole place "the ramp", although there is no ramp at all.
Some Russians recognise our superiority in many things, let themselves be guided and follow our advice.)[1] The Russian is very familiar, fond of community, keeps little distance. A nature of collectivity.
