14 Jan 47. Clothing Commission: For the undershorts we get, we have to give up the cloth pants! Whoever gets a fur coat has to give up his green cloth coat in return. The advantages that the Russians still give us in some cases are taken away by the “German” camp management. It's madness, as is the completely unnecessary welfare in the wrong place, such as the order: “On the privy (which is in the yard), headgear and undershorts are to be worn.” As if we didn't already do that by ourselves in this freezing cold! But where care is needed, there is none. E.g. winter clothing or stopping outdoor work at -30°C (which is forbidden anyway). In freezing cold January, sick people are driven 240 km on open trucks. Result: He arrived with one dead body.
