1 Mar 46. Inadequate rations for 2 months, with rapid weight loss. Deaths are increasing. Two dead yesterday, two dead today. We lie on the cot all day to save our strength. Memory is failing. Some distrophics are already walking around the camp like skeletons.
From time to time, the food gets a little better. Maybe when the deaths increase too much. Zentgraf tells of a camp 350 km southeast of Moscow, swampland, old Tsarist exile area. Today Bolshevik exile area. Civilians. Hard work, but good rations.[1]
Number of Stalingrad survivors approx. 5-6,000. That is the remainder of 91,000 who went into captivity.
Swedish and Swiss newspapers report with photos that only sick and emaciated people are released from the Soviet Union.
25 officers are taken away for interrogation. Fisticuffs, foot kicks to the neck, cold cells, shortened rations.
We have to hand in all our books, without explanation.[2] Later we get some of them back. That's how he always acts: he takes something away from us and later gives a small part of it back. That way he can always say that he gave it back.
