My hope of being transported home is finally buried. The senior doctor treating me is a good diplomat and psychologist after all. It’s amazing how skilfully and sensitively he took away my hope step by step without making me feel sad.[1] Of course I realised it, but that doesn’t diminish his skill.
When I’m at the front, I do my duty there as becomes. But when I’m wounded, I try to get home, because that’s often the only way to get leave.
